What’s the best bit about your job?
Providing innovative programs that help travelers and travel-related companies protect the environmental, socio-cultural and economic values the places they visit, and the planet at large

What’s the worst thing?
The days when it’s hard to be an optimist given all of the challenges we face in this day and age

What have the last 12 months been like for you?
Sustainable Travel International has been growing exponentially as the green movement continues to gain momentum and more companies are looking to integrate sustainable business practices into their operations.

What were you doing before?
I owned and operated The World Outdoors, an international active and adventure travel company.

What was your very first full-time job?
I was a labourer for a construction crew starting age 12

Have you got any plans for the next 12 months you’d like to share with us?
Sustainable Travel International is looking to expand beyond the US and Europe into Africa, Asia, and the South Pacific.

What do you do to relax?
Reading, whitewater kayaking, mountain biking, hiking, snowboarding, and walking our dog

My lovely wife Lisa

Whereabouts do you live?
Hood River, Oregon

Have you got any guilty carbon secrets?
Our VW wagon gets up to 40 mpg if we run diesel and only 32 mpg if we run biodiesel

What have you done that you were most proud of?
Founding a global non-profit organization that is focused on generating quantifiable benefits in terms of supporting environmental conservation, cultural heritage preservation and local community economic development.

What are you most concerned about in the world at large?
The mass extinction of cultures, as well as flora and fauna.

Which person in the public eye do you most admire and why?
I’ve always been a big fan of Paul Hawken. He’s influenced innumerable business owners and social entrepreneurs such as myself creating a sustainability multiplier effect.

What advice would you give to someone wishing to embark on the same sort of work as you?
Actualizing your dreams is a real possibility, especially if you’re willing to volunteer your time to create the right opportunity.
